Dog Food

Like humans, dogs need the right combination of the basic food groups in order to have a healthy life span. Dogs also need to be regulated on the kinds of food that they eat or else they would end up being obese as well.

Included in the dog s dietary regimen are the proper minerals and vitamins. These essential health items should be well incorporated into the dog s daily needs in order to have a healthy body.

The quality of food you feed your dog can greatly affect his health: from keeping his coat shiny and soft, to keeping his internal organs functioning properly. Behavioral problems such as hyperactivity, listlessness, short attention span, and ability to learn can also be affected by your dog's diet. Many common health problems can be cleared up simply by switching your dog to a better grade of food.

Feeding your dog starts with choosing a dog bowl. There are different kinds of bowls you can buy for your dog. Plastic bowls are colorful. Stainless steel dishes are not as exciting, but they are easier to clean thoroughly and your dog won't be able to chew them.

Give your dog his food in a clean bowl. Food tastes better when it comes from a fresh, clean bowl. If the bowl is clean, your dog will not get sick from germs in dirty dishes.

Right diet can keep your dog fit and fine and their coats shiny and smooth. Healthy dogs are the pride of their owners. Though, you may feed the dog most expensive of all dog foods, they may still be deficient in nourishment or get obese and may need weight control. Here are some things to keep in mind while feeding your dog:

  • In reality, dogs are carnivorous. The dog s body is especially inclined to generate growth and energy from meat products. However, dogs need fiber too to help them digest their foods properly and carbohydrates to provide them the added energy that they need.

So, it would be better if dog owners will feed their dogs every day with the usual dog foods available in the market and give them occasionally real foods where meat, fibers, and carbohydrates are present.

  • Milk is neither a balanced diet for dog nor it should be taken as a substitute for water. Over consumption of milk may even cause diarrhea.

  • Raw eggs make biotin unavailable for dog's body and thus consistent use of raw eggs may cause dermatitis, loss of hair, and poor growth in your canine pet.

  • Some species of raw fish may cause deficiency of vitamin thiamine in dog's body resulting in loss of appetite, abnormal posture, weakness, seizures and even death.

  • Table scraps are not enough for dogs and should only be fed as 10 percent of the canine's daily diet.

  • Meat is palatable to dogs but it is not balanced in nutrition too. Raw meats may cause infections while cooked meats can be high in fat content. Raw liver fed daily, even with balanced and complete diet, can cause vitamin A toxicity in dogs.

  • Small soft bones may choke the dog like a splinter. Chicken or steak bones leftover from dinner can choke your dog or break and cause damage to the inside of her body. Visit your favorite pet store to find special bones that are safe for your dog to chew.

  • People food is not it is not specifically balanced for dogs. Many people foods can give your dog diarrhea. If you feed your dog from the dinner table, he will learn to beg and bother everyone during the meal. Your family will be very impressed when your dog lies down quietly while you eat your meal.

  • Daily intake of complete and balanced food nearly eliminates the need of taking supplements. Special nutrition needs occur only if the dog gets inconsistent exercise, is fed on table scraps or is faced with stressful changes in routine.

  • A sycophant dog is hard to refuse but overeating may cause several problems such as obesity and depression in dogs.

  • Feed your pet at regular intervals and scheduled timings and enough only to keep it in good body condition.

  • Use only dog treats and regulate the dog's diet according to the treats you have offered him to keep the static calorie balance.

  • Commercial dog foods normally pack in the complete and balanced pet foods to providing optimum nutrition for our dogs.

  • Additional calcium is preferable in the diet of pregnant and nursing females and growing puppies and kittens.

  • Remember, chocolate can be dangerous. A small amount can make dogs sick. A large amount can cause death.

  • Cow hooves are unsafe because they have sharp edges.

  • Treats made especially for dogs are good to feed them, but too many will spoil their appetite for the balanced meal they need.

  • Rawhide can be safe if you sit with your dog while he chews it. Sometimes the pieces get soft and bend and they can get stuck in the dog's throat. If you supervise your dog when he chews rawhide, this shouldn't happen.

  • Dog foods, like dogs, come in a vast range of variety. Your dog's overall health depends on being fed a good quality diet.

  • Like humans, dogs need complex combinations of minerals and vitamins. These are needed to maintain the luster and shine in their coats and to provide them with healthy gums and teeth.

Lack of minerals and vitamins supplement will result to deficiencies of certain types that could be really difficult to deal with, such as extra dry or super oily skin, tummy problems, frail bones, low-weight, and worst cases are death.

Like humans, these dietary supplements are needed to give the dogs the extra needed nutrients in order to keep them healthy.

  • A well-balanced diet for the dogs includes green leafy vegetables too. Even if dogs are carnivorous by nature, they also need the right amount of greens to provide them with additional nutrients that are only available in green leafy foods.

Whenever something goes out offhand, it is always bets to consult the veterinarians. As they say, veterinarians know best when it comes to the dog s care.
